IPL Hair Removal Treatment

Expectations + Care

What to expect with IPL Hair Removal

During your IPL treatment, your skin will first be cleansed to remove any impurities and ensure optimal results. You will be provided with protective goggles to wear during the treatment. The IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment is then administered, targeting the specific area for hair removal.

After the lPL treatment, a soothing moisturizer is applied to hydrate and calm your skin. Finally, a layer of sunscreen is applied to protect your skin from sun damage and to help maintain your results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does IPL work?

Light is directed on to the skin which is then absorbed by the melanin pigments in the hair. The absorption of the light causes the hair follicle to heat up. By using the correct amount of light energy heating the follicle to the correct temperature, the heat is able to interrupt the hair growth cycle causing the hair to stop growing.

How long do results last?

Results from IPL treatments can be long-lasting, However, periodic maintenance sessions may be recommended to address new hair growth concerns.

Are there any contradictions in IPL Therapy?

Yes, IPL may not be suitable if you have very dark skin, are pregnant, have certain medical conditions, or are taking medications that make your skin sensitive to light. A consultation with a trained practitioner is essential to assess suitability.

Is this procedure painful?

You may experience a snapping sensation on your skin as the pulses of light are delivered. Some people describe it as feeling like a rubber band snapping against the skin. A cooling gel may be applied before treatment to minimize discomfort.

Are there any side effects to IPL Therapy?

Common side effects may include temporary redness, swelling, or darkening of pigmented spots immediately after treatment. These usually resolve within a few hours to a few days. More serious side effects such as burns or scarring are rare but possible if proper precautions are not followed.

How many sessions are needed?

A course of treatment is required to see the desired results. As hair grows in cycles, not all the hair will be targeted during one single treatment session. For IPL, it is often recommended to have at least 10 treatments, often one month apart. The number of IPL sessions needed varies depending on the thickness of the hair being removed, as well as the skin type and hair color.
